The Sophysa Young Investigator Award, awarded by the CNS Foundation, in collaboration with Sophysa USA, is an award to recognize an early career neurosurgeon who is committed to advancing patient care in traumatic brain injury and/or neurocritical care. This award is to support and encourage early career neurosurgeons who are dedicated to a career in Neurotrauma and/or Neurocritical Care and will be distributed twice annually, and awardees will be recognized at the CNS or AANS annual meeting.

Overall Goal
This award is to support and encourage early career neurosurgeons who are dedicated to a career in Neurotrauma and/or Neurocritical Care.
The Sophysa Young Investigator Award, awarded by the CNS Foundation, in collaboration with Sophysa USA, is an award to recognize an early career neurosurgeon who is committed to advancing patient care in traumatic brain injury and/or neurocritical care.
Details
This award will be distributed twice, and awardees will be recognized at the CNS or AANS annual meeting.
Applications will be accepted in 2 cycles:
- April - July (2025 deadline July 1) - First Cycle (CNS awardee)
- November - February (2006 deadline Feb 2) - Second Cycle (AANS awardee)
The award consists of $7,500 in award funding. Award funding is to be used to support the awardees research endeavors in traumatic brain injury and/or neurocritical care, and support travel to the CNS and/or AANS meeting.
Requirements for Applying
- Must be a CNS and/or AANS member in good standing and a member of the AANS/CNS Section on Neurotrauma and Critical Care.
- Must be a practicing neurosurgeon in the US, Mexico, or Canada, at least 1 year into practice but no more than 5 years in practice
- Be able to provide the following materials during the application process:
- Current CV
- Research intent statement (max 800 words) summarizing research accomplishments and upcoming research plans
- Personal statement that describes commitment to traumatic brain injury and/or neurocritical care research
- If selected, awardee will receive their award at the upcoming CNS or AANS meeting. Awardees must attend the following year CNS or AANS Annual Meeting to present their research in oral presentation format.
- If selected, awardees are also required to submit a brief written statement (~500 words) describing how receiving the Sophysa Young Faculty Award has impacted their career.
